Pair of Vintage French Geometric Arm Wall Lights

A pair of French wall sconces in glazed burgundy ceramic, worked in the geometric language of Art Deco. Each carries a balanced, geometric arm with interlocking patterns pressed into the hand-finished ceramic, and the deep burgundy glaze throws dramatic shadows when lit. The surface has the depth and variation that only a glazed ceramic of this age holds.

The sconces are French, from the 1930s, the height of the Art Deco period, when French decorative design was defined by exactly this kind of geometry and colour. Rather than a single named workshop, they belong to the broader tradition of French ceramic lighting, where colour glazes and geometric form were brought together with real craft.

The character is in the glaze and the forming. The burgundy is worked across a hand-finished ceramic body, and the interlocking geometric detailing is part of the piece rather than applied, catching light and shadow across its surface. The glaze has aged to an authentic patina, and minor surface wear, patina variation and small manufacturing marks are consistent with genuine period work and set these apart from mass-produced reproductions.
