Pair of French Filligree Ceramic Wall Lights

A pair of French wall sconces in glazed emerald green ceramic, worked with a filigree, leaf-like motif in relief. Each fixture carries fine botanical detailing raised across a hand-finished ceramic body, and the deep emerald glaze holds a jewel-like depth that shifts with the light. When lit, the relief pattern catches light and shadow across the surface.

The sconces are French, from the 1940s, part of the country's long tradition of decorative ceramic lighting. Rather than a single named workshop, they belong to that broader French craft of the period, where rich colour glazes and organic, botanical forms were brought together in fixtures made as much for their surface as their light.

The character is in the modelling and the glaze. The filigree leaf motif is formed into the ceramic rather than applied, which is what gives the relief its play of light and shadow, and the emerald green is worked across the body deep and even while keeping the natural variation of genuine glazed ceramic. The surface has aged to an authentic patina that marks the pair as truly vintage.

The pair suit a hallway, a bedroom, or a living space, and bring colour and botanical character to a period, Art Deco, or contemporary Australian interior. Both are in very good-excellent vintage condition. Each comes with a matching crisp white linen slip shade, made to order after purchase.
