A pair of French wall sconces in glazed ceramic, finished in a rich, deep green. Each carries a single arm and a hand-finished ceramic body in the clean, geometric lines of Art Deco, and the green glaze holds real depth, shifting in tone as the light moves across it. Lit, they cast a warm, inviting glow through the shades.

The sconces are French, from the 1940s, drawing on the Art Deco tradition of geometry and colour that ran through French decorative design. Rather than a single named workshop, they belong to the wider tradition of French ceramic lighting, where rich colour glazes were paired with sculptural, architectural form.

The character is in the glaze and the ceramic work. The green is worked across a hand-finished body, deep and consistent yet carrying the natural variation of genuine glazed ceramic. The detailing is formed into the piece rather than applied, and the surface has aged to an authentic patina that a reproduction cannot imitate.

The pair suit a hallway, a living room, or flanking a mirror or piece of artwork, and settle into a period, Art Deco, or contemporary Australian interior looking for colour and character. Both are in very good-excellent vintage condition. Each comes with a matching crisp white linen slip shade, made to order after purchase.
